Sannu! My name is Aisha, and I am a 29-year-old mother of two. My last child is three years old.
Every time I got pregnant, I became violently sick. I couldn’t eat anything, because I’d throw it up. Very shortly after I gave birth to my second child, my husband decided to meet Tabitha, a Lafiya Sister in the health facility where he worked. He had seen her counsel other women in the facility about family planning, and decided to ask her how to help me. Tabitha counselled my husband on the various family planning methods available, then he came home and told me all about what she’d shared.
I decided to use family planning and visited the health facility with my husband. Tabitha counselled me about my options too, and I chose to use DMPA-SC. I had heard about it from my neighbour. Before I met Tabitha, I had tried family planning before, but had to stop because it wasn’t available from the health facility. Tabitha injected me with my first dose of DMPA-SC, but I began to self-inject after my second visit to her.
““I am happy that I’m strong enough to care for my children, and look for other sources of income. Thank you, Lafiya, because I’m now a woman of my own money!””
Now, I have used family planning for several years, and live unafraid of becoming pregnant again. My husband is so happy that I’m stronger now, and I can focus more on my children. I’ve even started a business selling raw rice, which helps me to earn an income.
